Vitality says its medicated weight management pathway is showing that members have lost an average of 9.3 per cent of their body weight within three months.

The results highlight early progress in addressing rising obesity levels, which have increased from 14.9 per cent to 28.9 per cent of adults in England.

Vitality’s claims data highlights the health risks of obesity: individuals with higher BMI are 35 per cent more likely to be hospitalised for any condition, 70 per cent for musculoskeletal issues and 123 per cent for cardiac conditions. Meanwhile, 45 per cent of those using or considering weight loss medication were motivated by improving health and 48 per cent by maintaining a healthy weight.

In 2025, Vitality made weight-management medication a core part of its private medical insurance, providing members with access to treatments such as Wegovy and Mounjaro, along with lifestyle support and one-to-one dietitian coaching to support longer-term health management.

Vitality Health chief commercial director Dr Katie Tryon says: “This early indication of weight-loss success for those members on our medicated weight management pathway is really encouraging. While weight management medications are not a universal solution, they can be a useful tool helping to improve health for those who are eligible, especially when coupled with wider lifestyle changes and the establishment of long-term healthy habits; which in turn has the potential to help prevent associated conditions and hospitalisations.”

Second Nature CEO Chris Edson says: “Our partnership with Vitality is a perfect example of this holistic approach in action. By combining weight loss medications with our personalised, one-to-one coaching and dietitian support, we’re offering a truly integrated and unique solution that tackles both the physical and behavioural aspects of weight management. It will help Vitality members not only achieve their weight loss goals but also build healthier, more sustainable lifestyles.”
