VitalityHealth enhances mental health cover

VitalityHealth has upgraded its cover to add a more a comprehensive mental health option to its policies. 

This new mental health cover module will provide access to early intervention, via unlimited CBT and counselling. It also provides in-outpatient cover (up to £1,5000 per person) for mental health treatment, and for the most severe cases, 18 days of comprehensive in-patient or day-patient treatment. 

Vitality says that its survey last year showed that six of out 10 employees said they suffered from either work-related stress or depressions, highlighting the need for comprehensive mental health support through workplace healthcare and wellbeing packages. 

VitalityHealth became the first insurer to offer mental health cover as part of its core cover product back in 2016, and since then has made a number of enhancements and additions for members, including the addition of Vitality Healthy Mind in August last year.  

As part of core cover, members can access online support, as well as cover for up to eight sessions of talking therapy, such as counselling or CBT, accessible through self-referral.

Member can additionally access a range of mental health apps through Vitality Healthy Mind, which incentivises members to engage in various mindfulness activities.

VitalityHealth chief executive Neville Koopowitz says: “Our experience and research has shown us that physical and mental health and wellbeing are interlinked. 

“We also know that good mental health is about more than the treatment of ill-health, it also requires a focus on general wellbeing and encouraging healthy behaviours.

“We have invested in a range of pathways and treatments for our members, to cater for the broad range of risk – from the ability for people to proactively engage in wellbeing activities through to CBT and counselling and more comprehensive in-patient support.”
