Bupa has launched a new menopause healthline for health insurance clients and Bupa workers, extending its support for women’s health.
The helpline, launched ahead of world menopause day, October 18th, provides access to menopause-trained nurses for advice and information on managing symptoms.
Menopause symptoms, which include various physical and emotional issues, affect almost eight out of ten women and can substantially influence their confidence and performance at work. According to Bupa research, one million women have left their employment due to menopause, leaving a significant vacuum in experience and talent in the industry and adding to household financial strains across the country.
Menopause issues are already making their way into workplace agendas as companies aim to improve their support for women’s health, thanks to increased awareness following a slew of high-profile initiatives in recent years.
Bupa’s latest project to assist comes after the recent launch of its menopausal plan through the Bupa Health Clinics, which provides women with primary treatment for symptoms from specially trained GPs. Bupa also offers a free women’s health hub with information and advice from local health specialists on topics ranging from menopause to endometriosis to periods and conception.
Bupa Insurance CEO Alex Perry says: “Menopause is a time where many women need support tailored to them. With over 34 mental and physical symptoms, it can be a difficult time at home and at work. Because of this, too many women are leaving the workforce because they don’t get the right support.
“Easy access to the right tailored advice and guidance is often a gap, and that’s why we’ve launched this menopause healthline where women can access trusted support and advice from specially trained nurses when they’re not sure where to turn. We hope this will help many women continue with their careers and help our business customers retain more of their talent.”
