Aviva has appointed Anne Durkin to the newly-created role of head of protection reinsurance.

In this role Durkin will have responsibility for Aviva’s protection reinsurance across its individual and group businesses — including the former AIG Life business now known as Aviva Protection UK Limited (APUK).

The creation of this role is in recognition of the overall scale of Aviva’s protection business, and the importance of reinsurance to its strategic ambitions.

Durkin has more than 20 years’ experience in the protection market and joined the team as part of the integration of APUK from her role as head of reinsurance at AIG Life.

She has previously held senior roles in pricing, reporting, capital management and risk at AIG Life, Royal Liver Assurance and Entegria.

Durkin will report to commercial director Nick Austin. Commenting on this appointment Austin says: “This newly-created role reflects the significance of reinsurance and the importance of Aviva’s relationships with its reinsurers to the overall success of the protection business, particularly following the acquisition of AIG Life last year.

[Durkin] has a wealth of experience in protection reinsurance, as well as strong relationships across the market, both of which will be highly valuable as we develop and further strengthen Aviva’s reinsurance function.”
