Jones is the third ex-NatWest executive to be appointed to a high profile post by the Government in recent years, following in the footsteps of Derek Wanless, ex-group chief executive of the bank who carried out an extensive review of the NHS and Ron Sandler, former chief operating officer, who carried out 2002’s review of medium- and long-term savings.
Jones says: “The goal is clear – to achieve a system of personal accounts which is simple for both employers and employees. Personal Accounts will go live in 2012. Having led major new product development and change programmes in the past, I relish the prospect of working with a wide range of stakeholders to bring personal accounts to fruition.”
