Aviva has appointed Rita Butler-Jones, Fiona Matthews, and Rekha Owen to its Master Trust Board.

Rita Butler-Jones has been appointed trustee director. She has over 35 years’ experience in pensions and asset management and most recently led the defined contribution business at L&G, overseeing strategy and growth until her retirement earlier this year. She has also held senior roles at Prudential, Threadneedle and Mercer. She has worked on initiatives related to master trust development, private markets, pension adequacy, and the gender pension gap.

Fiona Matthews has been appointed trustee director and chair of the member experience and communications committee. She has served as a non-executive director and pension trustee on boards for master trusts, life assurance companies, and a global pension consultancy. Fiona founded and led LifeSight, a defined contribution master trust in the UK and EMEA, and has experience in strategy, member engagement, investment, operations, and managing complex growth programmes.

Rekha Owen has been appointed as the representative for The Law Debenture Pension Trust Corporation Plc on the Aviva Master Trust Board. She is a CFA Charterholder and accredited member of the Association of Professional Pension Trustees, with over 20 years’ experience in pensions and investments, including roles in investment consulting, fiduciary management, and financial regulation. She has worked with private assets, previously leading Mercer’s Alternatives Investment Business in Canada.

They join Aviva Master Trust Board members including chair Dr. Chris Noon, chair of the audit and risk committee Andy Purvis and chair of the investment committee Jonathan Parker.

Aviva Master Trust head Louise Williamson says: “I’m pleased to extend a very warm welcome to our three new Trustee Directors who join the Board at a particularly exciting time for the Aviva Master Trust, as it continues to grow and evolve, and for the wider defined contribution pensions industry. Their contribution will be invaluable as we navigate the rapidly changing landscape and respond to the opportunities it presents for our members.”

Aviva Master Trust chair Dr. Chris Noon says: “The Board of Trustees and I are delighted to have three immensely experienced people join the Aviva Master Trust Board and we look forward to benefitting from their diverse industry perspectives. Together, we are making a meaningful difference to the retirement outcomes for our members, now and in the future.”

“Alan Whalley and Anna Eagles leave the Board with our best wishes, and we thank each of them for their commitment and contribution to the Aviva Master Trust.”
