Canada Life has appointed Dominic Carpenter as commercial & strategy director, bulk purchase annuities (BPA).

Carpenter joins from Phoenix Group, where he most recently served as group capital director. He also spent 10 years at Legal & General as group capital director and head of reinsurance & structuring for the BPA business.

He will lead the commercial development of Canada Life’s bulk annuities business and drive initiatives across commercial strategy, reinsurance and pricing to support its BPA growth ambitions.

Canada Life managing director Shreyas Sridhar says: “I am excited to welcome Dom to Canada Life, and I look forward to working closely with him to drive the growth of our BPA business.

“Dom is an exceptional leader in our market and brings a wealth of commercial expertise and acumen to Canada Life’s growing BPA team. He is one of the pioneers in the UK pension derisking industry and I’m delighted he is joining us at an exciting stage of our growth. Dom will be instrumental in driving our ambition to become a market-leading provider of pension de-risking solutions, with member experience at the core of everything we do.”

Carpenter says: “I am thrilled to be joining Canada Life’s BPA team at this time of heightened strategic focus on the BPA market and relish the opportunity to further develop its market offering. Canada Life has fantastic foundations and a culture which puts the financial security of pension schemes and pensioners at the heart of what it does, and makes it a company I will be proud to be part of. I am excited about Canada Life’s intention in the BPA market and feel privileged to be part of ensuring its ambition is realised.”
