Nest has appointed Rachel Farrell to the newly created role of director of public and private markets.
The master trust provider said this will strengthen the team at Nest Invest. Farrell will report into the CIO at Nest, and provide an “additional level of seniority” to the investment team as it looks to grow its portfolio to an anticipated £100bn by the end of the decade.
Farrell has considerable experience in both traditional and alternative investments. She worked for a decade at JP Morgan were she became its CEO and country head of JP Morgan Asset Management Australia and New Zealand. She has also held the role of head of global portfolio management at BTAG (now Deutsche Bank).
Farrell says: “Having worked with defined contribution plans throughout my career, I’ve always been impressed by Nest and its highly diverse and sophisticated set of investments. Nest has a reputation as a leader in the DC industry, not just in the UK but around the world.”
Mark Fawcett, Nest Invest’s CEO says: “In the coming years Nest will be the largest UK pension scheme, representing more than a third of the UK workforce and managing £100bn assets under management. [Farrell’s] skill set and experience are exactly what we need to help us drive forward.
“Our investment strategies will continue to evolve so we can maximise the opportunities that come from Nest’s growing scale.”
