Pension schemes run by over-50s men, says survey

The study found that 82 per cent of pension trustees in the UK are men and 60 per cent are over the age of 50. Just 12 per cent of pension fund trustees are less than 40 years old.

Hymans Robertson says the dominance of men over 50 at the helm of company-sponsored pension schemes demonstrates one of the challenges companies face when engaging with younger employees and women to become more active in saving towards retirement.

Gail Paterson, a partner at Hymans Robertson, says: “Pension trustees are influential figures who direct the investment of pension funds and aim to ensure that all scheme members are aware of the likely level of their retirement benefits throughout their working life.”
