Smart Pension has promoted James Lawrence to the role of chief investment officer.
Lawrence has worked at Smart Pension for five years, as director of investment proposition and head of investment proposition.
He has been helping to oversee the investment strategy since the departure of the previous CIO Paul Bucksey at the end of the 2024.
In the CIO role, Lawrence will be responsible for designing and running the investment strategy of the £9bn Smart Pension Master Trust, including building innovative solutions with the investment manager partners, harnessing Smart’s technology capabilities, and transitioning investments to net zero by 2040.
Prior to joining Smart Pension Lawrence worked for Mercer for nine years.
